Opinion Essay – Can You Persist in your Opinion?
May 20th, 2008
I would like to start this article straight away with the fact that an opinion essay can be easily confused with an argumentative one. Thus, at this moment your main goal is to learn distinguishing the first kind of the essay from another.
What is the main purpose of writing an opinion essay? Yes, you are right – introducing your opinion on the topic. Yet, just like in the argumentative essay, you will have to demonstrate your ability of supporting your point of view.
Mostly, an opinion essay is necessary for the tutors, who do not know much about the thinking abilities of the students. This kind of work allows the tutors to assess your thinking skills and your capacity to be reasonable.
For instance, from my standpoint everybody needs friends. This is going to be my opinion, which I will support within my essay.
My arguments:
- Without friends any person feels lonely. You can have a family that will always be near throughout your life. Still, a family cannot replace one best friend.
- Friends are people, who can give you a good advice in any situation. I think you will agree that not every trouble or even happy event can be shared with your household, but you urgently need to hear somebody’s opinion. Where can you hear it, if you have no friends?
- Friends can fool around with you just without any particular reason. It often happens that you are in the good mood and you want to make something extraordinary. Together with your friend you will definitely find some good ideas.
So, it was a possible variant of writing an opinion essay.
